Knives Tier List

Knives decide whether Slime Out Fish pays you fairly. Rods fill the bucket; knives decide if scrapes go perfect before ducks hand over Cash. This tier list ranks the documented blade ladder and spells out upgrade order so you never stare at a million-Cash Seaside Overlord while still failing Kitchen-tier fish. Pair every section with Perfect Scaling and the rods tier list.

Ranking criteria

  • Ability to hold perfect scrapes on the fish your current rod actually catches
  • Cash efficiency (power per dollar)
  • Ability to clear multi-catch bait loads after events
  • Opportunity cost versus rod and bait spends

S tier — late endgame blade

Seaside Overlord is the named late knife with a millions of Cash price tag. It is S-tier when you are truly endgame and already holding high mid rods (Lightning, Ice Arrow, Crystalline class) plus reliable bait and luck discipline. It is not S-tier as a day-three purchase. Buying it early freezes rod progression and starves weather prep. Treat Overlord as a capstone after Sharpener-era blades already made perfects boring.

A tier — high mid sharpness

Sharpener-tier and other top mid-late knives occupy A. These blades exist to keep perfects alive when A/S rods start landing heavier, rarer fish—especially during Meteor’s 2× luck / 2× mutated window and Thunder’s busy five-weather-fish chaos. If perfect rate dips right after a rod upgrade, your next Cash pile belongs here, not in another rod skip. Check Weather Events so you upgrade before a planned event night, not mid-timer.

B tier — mid-game stabilizers

Chef Knife and Alloy band knives are B-tier heroes. They transform post-Kitchen play from “sometimes perfect” into “usually perfect” on Bamboo/Carbon Fiber catches. This is where most players should live while learning bait timing and Thunder Siam routes. Skip this band and you will misread the game as low Cash when you are simply incomplete-scraping half your inventory.

C tier — mandatory opener

Kitchen Knife (~$15) is C as an endgame tool and S as a first purchase. After codes and the like-and-favorite chest (~1k Cash + potions), Kitchen Knife is the correct first shop click. It makes early perfects realistic and unlocks honest evaluation of the Beginner → Toy Rod step in Getting Started.

D tier — starter only

The Starter knife is D-tier. It teaches the scrape verb, then becomes a Cash leak. Do not romanticize it. Replace it with Kitchen Knife the moment Cash allows.

Canonical upgrade order

  1. Starter (forced) → Kitchen Knife (~$15)
  2. Confirm perfects on Toy Rod fish
  3. Chef tier when perfects slip after Bamboo/Carbon Fiber
  4. Alloy improvements as rarity climbs
  5. Sharpener band ahead of or alongside Lightning / Ice Arrow / Crystalline rods
  6. Seaside Overlord only with millions banked and the rest of the loop optimized

Tick the same order on the upgrade checklist. Money theory sits in How to Earn Cash.

Knife vs rod decision tree

Ask after every shop visit:

  • Are perfect scrapes default on my last ten fish? If no, buy knife.
  • Are perfects easy but fish still mostly commons? If yes, buy rod.
  • Both fine under bait multi-catch? Buy bait or bank for weather consumables — bait and boosts.

This tree prevents the classic failure: Lightning Rod flex clip followed by dull-knife tears in chat.

Event processing and knives

Aurora, Thunder, and Meteor create sudden inventory spikes. A B or A knife turns those spikes into Cash and clears queue for the next cast. A D/C knife turns them into stress. Before a known weather pull, verify sharpness. After Meteor weather fish (~1715 Starlight each at Thunder Siam) are secured, scale the remaining haul carefully—perfects still matter for duck Cash even when Starlight was the headline.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Saving for Seaside Overlord while failing Chef-tier scrapes.
  • Ignoring Kitchen Knife because “$15 seems tiny.” Tiny is the point.
  • Upgrading knives only after entire evenings of incomplete feeds.
  • Buying sharpness, then never testing under bait load.
  • Blaming controls for dull-knife symptoms without checking Controls and blade tier.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Slime Out Fish questions.

What knife should I buy first in Slime Out Fish?

The Kitchen Knife for about $15 after codes and the like chest. It is the first real sharpness upgrade off the starter blade.

When do I buy Chef or Alloy knives?

When perfect scrapes start failing on the fish your Bamboo/Carbon Fiber (or better) rod is catching. Stabilize mid knives before chasing Seaside Overlord.

Is Seaside Overlord worth millions?

As a late capstone, yes for players who already have strong rods, bait habits, and Sharpener-era perfects. As an early goal, it stalls progression.

Can a good knife replace luck potions?

No. Knives protect Cash from scrapes; luck potions improve catch quality during strong weather. You want both, timed correctly.

How do knives relate to bait?

Buy bait only when your knife can perfect-scrape multi-catch loads. Otherwise bait creates a worthless backlog.
